Diamond Circle - Godafoss

After a stop for a coffee and some sandwiches (we pack our own lunches whenever possible), we drove from Hverfjall to Godafoss, the third waterfall we planned to see that day. Not surprisingly the scenery along the way was amazing.

A small crater

Myvatn is the name of the general area we were in. Myvatn refers to midges, and though we weren't bothered by them where we were, we did drive through some "midge tornadoes"! We have never seen so many bugs. The camera was actually able to pick the bugs up there were so many. Check out this video someone posted of midge swarms. I'm so glad we missed the worst of them. Yikes!

Iceland has a lot of speed signs. Speeding is frowned upon, and there are tons of cameras to catch speeders. John usually managed to get the happy face, but on occasion we were shamed by the frowny face.

Godafoss from a distance

Like most of the falls we visited you can get as close to them as you want. Those who are brave go right to the edge. We got fairly close, but not so close we could slip & fall over!

Godafoss is interesting as it is split in the middle by some large rock formations, and those formations are also split down the middle by a small falls.

I was completely fascinated by these formations so you will see a lot of photos of them. They made me think of bones.

The restaurant & visitors' area

Gap in the rocks

Shallow caves

The pedestrian bridge you can take to get to the restaurant area and other side of the falls.

We aren't sure why this was here, but I wouldn't recommend taking these stairs!

It's interesting to see how the rock breaks from below.

He managed to get some decent photos of me.
