Selfoss to Reykjavik

Fortunately the injury occurred at the end of the trip on Sunday. We had a day and half in Reykjavik, then we flew out on the Tuesday.

It was a raining as we left Selfoss but that didn't stop "our" chickens from coming out to say goodbye. They seemed baffled by our departure. I will miss the chickens - they were very friendly.

We passed the Bobby Fischer Centre again. I had no idea that he died as an Icelandic citizen. It's an interesting story that I encourage you to read about.

When we got to Reykjavik our plan was to go to the Harpa to see the Bowie exhibit. The Harpa really is a gorgeous building. We were able to get some better pictures of it this time.

The ceiling is mirrored.

The front wall is double glass.

The exhibit was called Bowie - The Session, photographs by Gavin Evans. We both enjoyed it. The subject is such an interesting person, and the photography was stellar. I loved the lighting Evans used.

From there we walked to lunch. We chose a restaurant downtown called Laekjarbrekka. We had passed it several times previously as it was close to the tourist bureau. We both had traditional Icelandic meat soup - delicious! John was especially lucky as he got to eat some of the most delicious looking bread I've seen. He ate a lot of it too! The restaurant features artists, and we loved the artwork on display that day. The artist is Inga Hlodvers.

We also passed a new mural. I really like this one. It is also part of the Wall Poetry project.

After lunch we stopped in at our favourite store, Kirsuberjatred Creative Local Makers. All women, they feature some of the most unique artwork we saw on our trip. We bought a couple of memories here. I bought some gull earrings to remind me of standing on the Krysuvikurberg cliffs with John. We also bought a bowl made of radishes. What, you say, radishes?  The artist slices radishes thinner than paper, then dyes them all different colours. Then she forms them into bowls, from tiny to large. We bought the only shallow bowl she had. I am going to get a hanger to display it on the wall. It needs to be seen. How gorgeous is this:

Poor John really wanted a salmon skin belt, but they were $200 and he just couldn't bring himself to pay that much for a belt.

From there we went back to the Arcturus Guesthouse where we stayed when we arrived in Iceland. I had a nap, then we headed out to have a drink before dinner. We had a reservation at Resto, but not until 8pm. We found a bar in hotel just down the street for a drink. I noticed a sculpture across the street I really wanted photos of, so we did that on the way back to the restaurant.

Remember back to the horse sculpture outside the tourist information centre? Well, we found one by the same artist. Unfortunately I am still searching for the artist's name.

Dinner at Resto was delicious. We are going to have a hard time eating fish now, because the fish in Iceland is so fresh and wonderful.
