Reykjavik - Hallgrimskirkja

On Tuesday morning, the day we flew home, we had enough time to visit Hallgrimskirkja, the gorgeous church in downtown Reykjavik. The church itself is lovely, but you can also go the tower above the clocks to view Reykjavik from 360 degrees. I loved it. We spent an hour up there. We would take pictures, then look, then take pictures, then look. I don't know how many times we went around to all the windows. And all that for $9 each! Amazing. And the weather was perfect, warm, sunny, and bright blue skies. I was still using my cane and hobbling a bit, but we got around OK.

The beautiful front doors.

Leifur Eiriksson. See this page for 10 facts about the statue.

I love the sod roof.

There is a round metal sculpture in front of the church that reflects everything in it.  A lot of people use it for selfies.

The back of the church is equally interesting.

Cutest little dog in town.

The interior is stunning.

But the pipe organ is beyond words.

John silhouetted by the light coming through the clock face.

We took the stairs to the lookout area. The views were unreal.

And the sod roof bar

The Pearl

You can see the back of the church in these photos.

I love these colourful houses.

The harbour was pretty spectacular as well.

We didn't get to the Pearl this time, but we will next time we go.

Looking down on other lovely churches.

Plane landing at the airport.

A huge cruise ship in the harbour.

Back to the interior of the church.

Without a doubt, one of the highlights of the trip.
