Leaving Landmannalaugar

After completing the incredible Blahnukur hike it was time to drive out of Landmannalaugar on that awful road. It had rained a lot while we were hiking, though not on us, thankfully. It meant the road was wet, mucky, and flooded in spots. Despite that we passed a lot of people hiking & cycling in. Yikes. That's a long way to walk & bike, especially on bad roads.

But there was a lot to see before we got back out on the road.

These little guys were in a stream in Landmannalaugar.

The "double-wide" sheep! We could not believe how wide some of the sheep are. You'd think there were 2, but that is just one sheep. And there are lots like that.

We parked in the lot before the stream and walked, but some people prefer to make the crossing.

As we got back to the car there was a line up of old cars waiting to make the crossing. It is a club. How cool!

First one made it! It's deeper than you'd think.

This guy had some engine trouble that was holding things up.

Once we got back in the car and had lunch, John was eager to get going!

A cyclist making her way back to the main road. She had courage - that was a wet, bumpy descent.

Part way there is a bridge over this water. On the way I noticed the colours of the water and made sure we stopped on the way back so I could get some photos. The light isn't great but if you look closely you can see where the bright blue water meets the brown/green water. So pretty.

Also on the way we noticed some grass/sod covered buildings and planned to stop there on our way back. Unfortunately the museum was closed, but we got a few pictures.

Look closely to see the buildings.

Lots of horses!
