The Highlands - Landmannalaugar

Finally, to the Highlands! We knew this was going to be a highlight of the trip, and it didn't disappoint. In fact, it was probably even more beautiful than we anticipated. If you plan to go to Iceland, be sure you go to Landmannalaugar. You won't regret it.

The majority of the drive is great - paved roads, beautiful scenery. Then you get to the gravel "road", which is 26km of offroading. Having driven it twice I can't understand why anyone would choose to go offroading. Sheesh, it's too bumpy!

But first, more chickens!

Once again the drive was lovely. It was sprinkling a little, but not too badly.

Traffic signals were happy with John again.

One of only two windmills we saw.

Power plant and dam

Really low cloud

Cyclists trying to make their way up the gravel road

Can you see the "person"?

Lots of snow still in the Highlands

After what seemed like an eternity we reached Landmannalaugar.
