Selfoss to Reykjavik

On our second day in Selfoss we drove to Reykjavik. We had to exchange the little Soul for a four wheel drive vehicle, a Kia Sportage. In order to drive into the Highlands you must have a 4 wheel drive vehicle. The Soul was probably relieved to get a bit of break from all the driving we made it do.

We wandered around Reykjavik a bit, and went to Glo for lunch/dinner. In the evening we went to the Blue Lagoon. We weren't planning to but people who had been to Iceland said it was an experience we shouldn't miss. It turned out to be a lot of fun.

Bobby Fischer Centre - more on that later

Big pipeline being built. Iceland depends entirely on wind, geothermal, and hydroelectric for power.

On the main highway between Selfoss & Reykjavik - a warning to drive carefully

The beautiful viking ship sculpture Solfar, Sun Voyager is in the Reykjavik harbour. It's lovely but difficult to avoid getting pictures with people climbing all over it. Damn tourists! The artist is Jon Gunnar Arnason

The Harpa

Lots of construction in Reykjavik

We had planned to visit the Reykjavik Art Museum the following Monday, but for reasons that will become clear later, that didn't happen.

More graffiti

I also hoped to get to the dome to see what it is, but that also did not happen. Here is some information about it. The artist is Olof Nordal

The Laundromat Cafe, one of very few laundromats in Iceland.

A sculpture outside one of the tourist centres. You will see a similar sculpture later. I'm still trying to determine the artist's name.

An odd mesh bag full of garbage outside a construction zone

More graffiti

The police - Logreglan

Adorable little house on a hill

On the side of the Ministries of Industry and Innovation building facing the harbour. You will see him again. This mural is part of the Wall Poetry Series. Awesome idea.

Some very modern buildings facing the harbour

People! I hate people getting in my photos
